Cousin Jan and her husband Bob took to the rope handling like pros. The German cemetaries were marked with black crosses and often black Stars of David.  Nearby this location is a very large American cemetary from WW2.
On the Bourgogne there are a number of chateaus but few compare to this lovely building at Tanlay.

The Champagne country is peaceful and idyllic with wheat and grapes filling the valley floors and hillsides.
The Canal du Bourgogne passes right at the end of the airbase in Dijon, providing some lively excitement.
The old Chateau at Thiery dates back to the Knights and Crusades
We took the train in to Paris and it stops just at Galleryies Lafayette - so Barb...
Fort Douamont, after a million rounds of shelling.
Of course we couldn't "do" Paris without a picture of the tower.
Ye Olde Firinge Squade gave us a show in Verdun.  I'm not sure how Napoleon won so many battles.
At Nogent sur Marne we pulled in under the trees, no charge or services, but a 20 minute train in to Paris.
Some moorings are just the most peaceful imaginable, like this one on the Marne, west of Epernay.
We thought we were going to be able to stay the night on the Moselle, here at Sierk Les Bains, but this was the night of the "manifestation" so we had to keep moving.  Good spot though.
Temple Neuf in Metz is a fine example of the city's architecture.
We stopped a night or two in
Stenay where there is an interesting beer museum.  Nice port just off the river.
This happy couple had just got married in Saint Julien on the Canal du Centre, and asked if they could use the barge as a backdrop for some wedding photos.
