This site is virtually complete and is quite complex, with pages going off in all directions related to this barging lifestyle.  Probably the easiest way to keep track of the directions is through this site map.

We hope you enjoy the website and that it provides the sort of information we sought as we undertook this adventure.  If you have specific concerns or questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch with us.  We are not trying to be the world's authority on building a barge or even building a budget.  The pages in our website are written from our own experience in buying and fitting out a 25 metre ship, based on no experience whatsoever.   There are as many options as to how to build a barge as there are people undertaking the task.

There is, however, a commonality of cost structures on which we focus in our site.  There ain't no such thing as having all the bells and whistles in a 25 metre barge for 150,000 Euros.  So if budget is a constraint, start the search process by figuring which bells and which whistles you are prepared to leave on the dock.

It really is a wonderful experience, so HAPPY BARGING!

L'Escapade
We had this stiking painting of l'Escapade leaving Roanne commissioned by Vichy area artist Christian Renard after seeing his work at an exposition in Vichy.  We were attracted by the style, with its heavy paint sculpting and by his ability to capture the perspective of the shape and strength of barges.  He has done a number of paintings of barges on the Seine, with Paris scenes in the background.  His work detailing the structures in the Vichy spa are marvelous and well worth the 400 - 1200 Euros Christian charges.  Visit Monsieur Renard's  website to see some examples of his work at  christian-renard.com.  He may be reached by phone at +33 (0)6 838 70207.
